Lemuel Martinez - District Attorney

Serving Cibola, Sandoval and Valencia Counties

     District Attorney Lemuel Martinez is the people's lawyer for the 13th Judicial District. He works to prosecute violations of the State Criminal Laws such as: Felonies, Misdemeanors, Juvenile Delinquency and DWI, as well as some Civil cases. Mr. Martinez's office is committed to working on behalf of the community and making it a safer place to live and raise a family.

     Albuquerque native Lemuel L. Martinez earned his bachelor's degree in Business Administration and Political Science from the University of Southern California, a Master of Arts degree in Liberal Education from St. John's college in Annapolis, Maryland and a Master of Arts in Education from the University of New Mexico. He has taught at Santa Fe High School' served as teacher, coach and administrator at Laguna-Acoma Jr./Sr. High School and served as a teacher at Grants High School.

     Mr. Martinez earned his law degree at the University of New Mexico School of Law in 1995. He then began his legal career as an Assistant District Attorney in Cibola County. He was elected District Attorney of the 13th Judicial District in 2000 and has been re-elected in 2004, 2008 and 2012. As a resident of Cibola county, Mr. Martinez continues his commitment to education by teaching at New Mexico State University - Grants.

    A as president, vice president and secretary/treasurer of the New Mexico District Attorneys' Association, Mr. Martinez has served on the Governor's transition committees for the Department of Corrections, Department of Public Safety and the New Mexico Sentencing Commission. He is the past President of the National Hispanic Prosecutors Association and past Assistant Treasurer of the National District Attorney Association.
