The 13th Judicial District Attorney's Office represents a wide and varied district that covers the New Mexico counties of Cibola, Valencia and Sandoval and is headed by District Attorney Barbara Romo. One of the largest districts in the state, the 13th Judicial District Attorney's Office is responsible for prosecuting criminal cases in all three counties seeking justice, protecting the vulnerable, through a fair and transparent judicial process. District Attorney Barbara Romo will continue to work with legislators in the fight to expand the rights of crime victims, and is working to forge strong law enforcement partnerships, expand diversion programs and is dedicated to creating community education programs and partnerships.

The 13th Judicial District comprises 21,099 square miles, is the fastest growing judicial district in the State of New Mexico, but comprises a total population of only 250,000. The three counties of the 13th Judicial District are all classified by the federal government as rural areas.

The majority of the growth in the 13th District has been in the southern part of Sandoval County in the communities of Rio Rancho, Bernalillo, Corrales and Placitas. Despite the growth in these communities, the county remains primarily rural, spread over 3,709 square mile. Distances add to the challenges for law enforcement.  It is 97.5 miles from La Madera in the southeastern part of the county to Counselor, in the northeast corner.

The District cases are handled by a total of 30 Attorneys, five Victim Advocates, one Pre-Prosecution Diversion Officer, three investigators, three process servers and a support staff of 36.
